Dear Earth,
Hey, it’s me. I know we haven’t talked in a while. You know how it is. Running this way and that, trying to save you and forgetting you at the same time. The hours just get away from me; turn to days, weeks, months, seasons, and whatever the reasons, I have forgotten you.
Today, I remember. I look forward to your Big Day; it’s only a few days from now. Are you excited? Hopefully, this year will be that B-Earthday you have been wishing for, and there will be a birth of new environmentally progressive IDEAS and ACTIONS that go into our COLLECTIVE HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS. I know, I know. You thought last year was going to be your B-Earthday… and the year before, and the year before, and the year before… I really feel good about this year, though, old friend… really.
No matter what, I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for SURVIVING and still creating BEAUTY for us every day. I know that it must hurt you so badly to have your lush green rain forests stripped and raped for land. I know you mourn the polar bears that find their graves in the frozen-ice-water-oceans rising from your melting poles, and all the other animal souls who have died with more respect for you than most of Mankind. I am so sorry that we have all been so BLIND.
Today, I just wanted to drop you a little note to tell you that I was thinking about you yesterday, staring at the reflections and stillness on a sunset lake, and listening to the sway of the oak tree’s leaves bending in the breeze. I love those little moments we share, where silence fills the air, and I am all of a sudden inspired by the creative fire of your beauty, and the only way to do you justice is to sing your song in poetry. Those moments keep me going day by day; the solitude and serenity of breathing a breath with you, inhaling and exhaling Earth whispers, this is how I pray.
I have contemplated my life’s purpose under the over-arching arms of your sky, and thanked you for renewal and second chances, while watching a single leaf fall, out of the corner of my eye. I have kissed lovers on your grass, and planted seeds of HOPE in your open heart. I have cleansed my soul in the expanse of your waters, and when I was lost, Earth… you were my mother and my father. You have always been there to HOLD me and surround me in you, but I ask this, my friend, who is holding YOU?
From this day forward, I solemnly swear, that I will not smell the flowers or breathe the fresh air without first giving THANKS to YOU for all the LIFE that you bear. The truth is, this Earth Day should be the New Holy Day, because if we TREAT YOU AS IF YOU ARE SACRED, maybe we will be someday.
For all that you DO, for all that you ARE, for your hopes that REDEMPTION is not too far, for your constant REGENERATION and Ever REBIRTH, my dear friend, I thank you, beautiful precious Earth.
Eternally yours,
~ Kai
