Peace Begins When Hunger Ends

It’s not yet Halloween here in the U.S., but neighbors already have Christmas lights up and the holiday catalogs arrive daily.

One such catalog that got my attention was a gift catalog where you send an animal to a community. It came from an organization dedicated to ending world hunger.

From bees to llamas to water buffaloes, your gift in the form of an animal, provides essential assistance to families in over 125 countries.

Since 1944, Heifer International has worked to bring help, healing and hope to millions of impoverished families. In that time, they’ve assisted more than 10.5 millions families where hunger and despair prevailed.

Through livestock, training and extending their gift to others, Heifer programs have reinvigorated communities, alleviating hunger and poverty for so many.

Today Heifer is recognized around the world for its effective approach to ending poverty. Because of Heifer hundreds of thousands of families are able to feed their children and give them a better future. Heifer provides more than food. You bring hope and triumph of the human spirit.

Like a stone dropped into still water, your gift ripples out for years to come. That is why they call their catalog

The Most Important Gift Catalog in the World.

Imagine this scenario:

  • You decide to donate a sheep in honor of your mother, who always loved these gentle animals
  • Your mother receives a gift card  describing your thoughtful and loving contribution.
  • Once the family completes training and has prepared appropriate facilities, then they receive a healthy female sheep (or other animal of your choosing.)
  • Throughout the year, the sheep provides soft, warm wool and the promise of new hope for each family.
  • The family gives one or more of its sheep’s offspring to another family in need in the community. (Heifer also ensures there’s a healthy male sheep in the village for breeding.)
  • The second family agrees to contribute one or more their sheep’s offspring, and so on.

You can easily envision how one animal can transform the life of a village or community.

Be an “Ark” Angel

You can change the world, two by two, for $5,000. This is a beautiful way for your organization, civic group, club or congregation to bring  Joy to the World.

This gift goes to support Heifer’s entire mission which helps families to both secure food and provide a source of dependable income.

You can see below that it doesn’t cost much money to end the cycle of poverty and hunger.

Only a Grinch Could Refuse Christmas Chicks: $20

Create Holiday Buzz and Buy Honeybees: $30

Light up a Life With Llamas: $150

Box up a Buffalo: $250

You get the idea…
