How often have you said, “I wasn’t thinking,” in response to some action you took that turned out badly?
It wasn’t that you weren’t “thinking,” per se; your mind was focused somewhere else. When our physical, emotional and mental bodies are unaligned, we are not present. Our essential self is absent.
If you want to be conscious in your daily life, you must integrate your personality, emotions and thoughts so that they communicate as one. This is what is known as the “soul-infused” personality, in esoteric teachings.
You’ll recognize such an individual when he shakes your hand. He’s completely present. You feel the firmness of his grip, hear the resonance in his voice and register the look in his eyes. You may even wonder if you’ve met before. In a sense, you have because you are connecting on a soul level.
Using the mind is not thinking because it can be used to dramatize our emotions and create a fearful picture based on negative memories, for example. This is mechanical thinking.
True thinking comes from the higher mind and is really a form of meditation. When you communicate with the Inner Teacher, the Solar Angel, your Real Self begins to unfold and master your mechanical thinking.
You will know whether you are thinking from a personality level or from the soul level based on motive. If you are thinking in the light of your Solar Angel, your motive is only to help, uplift, guide or protect.
The thinking process is an electrical exchange between the point of light called man and the shining light of the Inner Teacher.

Your readers might find interest in The James Allen Library where you can read As a Man Thinketh and the complete collection of works by Allen.

Thanks for writing Rick. I meant to place a link to the classic “As a Man Thinketh” but wasn’t certain about the best place. This is a great resource.
